Chetak Screen Awards 2026 Full Winners List: Dhurandhar Bags 14 Awards and Homebound Wins Best Film

If you love Indian cinema — and honestly who reading this does not — the Chetak Screen Awards 2026 was exactly the kind of evening that reminds you why this industry is so special.

Held on April 5, 2026 and broadcast live on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV — this was the first time in 20 years that a film awards show went fully live across TV and digital simultaneously. Hosted by Alia Bhatt, Farah Khan, Sunil Grover and Zakir Khan — the energy was exactly what you would expect from that lineup.

But let us get to what everyone actually wants to know.

Who won what.

The Big Story of the Night — Dhurandhar’s Massive Sweep

Going into the night Dhurandhar had led all nominations with 24 nods. And while it did not win everything — it won where it mattered most.

14 awards went home with Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller. That number alone tells you the kind of film this was — technically brilliant, well-written, well-directed and well-acted across every department.

This is not just a popular film winning awards. This is a film that genuinely impressed a peer-voted Academy of 53 acclaimed filmmakers and artists. That credibility matters.

Best Film — Homebound Takes the Top Prize

Here is the genuine surprise of the night.

Despite Dhurandhar’s domination across technical and performance categories — Best Film went to Homebound.

The film was up against an incredibly strong field — Dhadak 2, Dhurandhar, Haq, Saiyaara, Sitaare Zameen Par, Superboys of Malegaon and Chhaava.

Homebound taking Best Film is a statement. It says that Neeraj Ghaywan’s film connected with the Academy at the deepest level — as a piece of storytelling, not just as a technical achievement.

Best Director — Aditya Dhar Wins

Aditya Dhar took home Best Director for Dhurandhar.

The competition was serious — Laxman Ramchandra Utekar for Chhaava, Neeraj Ghaywan for Homebound, Reema Kagti for Superboys of Malegaon among others.

But Dhar’s win feels completely deserved. Shooting essentially two films worth of content within the budget and schedule of one — and delivering something this polished — is a genuinely extraordinary achievement in direction.

Best Actor Male — Ranveer Singh Wins for Dhurandhar

Ranveer Singh wins Best Actor Male and honestly — this result is going to silence a lot of people who doubted his casting.

He beat out a field that included Vicky Kaushal (Chhaava), Siddhant Chaturvedi (Dhadak 2), Manoj Bajpayee (Jugnuma: The Fable) and Adarsh Gourav (Superboys of Malegaon.) Every single one of those performances was award-worthy.

Ranveer winning means the Academy felt he delivered the most complete performance of the year. Given what we know about how he approached this role — the restraint, the physicality, the emotional depth — this award makes complete sense.

Best Actor Female — Yami Gautam Wins for Haq

One of the most satisfying wins of the night.

Yami Gautam wins Best Actor Female for Haq — beating Triptii Dimri (Dhadak 2), Konkona Sen Sharma (Metro In Dino), Radhika Apte (Sister Midnight) and Kriti Sanon (Tere Ishk Mein.)

This is Yami Gautam at the absolute peak of her powers. Haq gave her a role with real weight and she delivered something that clearly resonated deeply with the Academy voters.

Supporting Categories

Best Supporting Actor Male — Akshaye Khanna for Dhurandhar

Nobody is surprised by this. Akshaye Khanna in Dhurandhar was one of the talking points of the entire year. He brought something genuinely special to every scene he was in.

Best Supporting Actress Female — Shalini Vatsa for Homebound

A well-deserved recognition for a performance that may have been overlooked by casual viewers but clearly made a strong impression on the Academy.

Technical Awards — Dhurandhar Cleans Up

This is where Dhurandhar’s dominance really showed.

  • Best Cinematography — Vikash Nowlakha for Dhurandhar
  • Best Background Score — Shashwat Sachdev for Dhurandhar
  • Best Editing — Shivkumar V. Panicker for Dhurandhar
  • Best Action — Aejaz Gulab and team for Dhurandhar
  • Best Sound Design — Bishwadeep Chatterjee for Dhurandhar
  • Best Special Effects — Envision VFX and team for Dhurandhar
  • Best Production Design — Saini S. Johray for Dhurandhar
  • Best Dialogue — Aditya Dhar for Dhurandhar
  • Best Hairstyling and Makeup — Preetisheel Singh D’souza for Dhurandhar
  • Best Costume — Smriti Chauhan for Dhurandhar (shared with Chhaava’s Sheetal Iqbal Sharma)
  • Best Choreography — Vijay Ganguly for Dhurandhar (Shararat)

That is a sweep across almost every technical department. When a film wins like this it tells you one thing — every single department brought their absolute best.

Music Awards — Saiyaara Has a Big Night

While Dhurandhar dominated the technical side — Saiyaara had a strong night in the music categories.

  • Best Song — Saiyaara Title Track (Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, Arslan Nizami)
  • Best Playback Singer Male — Faheem Abdullah for Saiyaara Title Track
  • Best Playback Singer Female — Shreya Ghosal for Saiyaara Title Track

And the Best Lyrics went to the legendary Gulzar for Ul Julool Ishq from Gustaakh Ishq. When Gulzar wins — nobody argues.

New Talent Awards

Breakthrough New Actor Male — Ahaan Panday for Saiyaara

Breakthrough New Actor Female — Aneet Padda for Saiyaara

Both wins from the same film — which speaks to how well Saiyaara launched new talent into the spotlight.

Breakthrough Debut Director — Shazia Iqbal for Dhadak 2

OTT Winners — Stolen Has a Remarkable Night

On the digital front — Stolen was the big story.

  • Best OTT Film — Stolen
  • Best Actor Male OTT — Abhishek Banerjee for Stolen
  • Best Director OTT — Karan Tejpal for Stolen
  • Best Script OTT — Stolen (Karan Tejpal, Gaurav Dhingra, Swapnil Salkar)

Best Actor Female OTT — Sanya Malhotra for Mrs — a performance that has been universally praised since the film released.

Haq wins this important category — recognition that the film tackled real and meaningful subject matter in a responsible and impactful way.

About Chetak Screen Awards

The Screen Awards have been running since 1995 — instituted by The Indian Express Group. They are widely considered one of India’s most credible film honours because of one key factor — winners are chosen by the independent Screen Academy, a not-for-profit body of 53 acclaimed filmmakers, artists and cultural voices.

This is not a popularity contest. It is a peer vote. And that makes every single win mean something real.

This year over 95% of Academy members participated in the evaluation process. The grading framework was developed by Dr Priya Jaikumar of the University of Southern California — ensuring fairness, neutrality and genuine assessment of creativity and excellence.

Academy members include names like Shoojit Sircar, Deepa Mehta, Sriram Raghavan, Rajkumar Hirani, Payal Kapadia, Vidya Balan, Karan Johar, Kabir Khan and many more.

When this group votes — you pay attention.
